We lost in the final by the sudden goal rule in the dying seconds of the game
Following is an interview given by Hugo to the MISN news wire
Welcome everyone to a brand new season of MISN Soccer! Our team has representatives from all the continents except one, and is gunning for its fourth title in a row!
I spoke to Hugo Viladevall, the captain of the MISN Soccer team, recently about the team and what his thoughts were for the upcoming year.
Hugo is a proud Catalonian whose first love is the beautiful game (i.e. football
played with a round ball!). Not surprisingly, his favorite football club is
Catalonian (and Spanish) giant Barcelona. Hugo is a medicine student and has
been the captain of the championship winning team twice. (There is one championship
each term and MISN has won three of the last four). He was captain in years
1995-97 and took a break in 1998 before rejoining the team in 1999. He plays
in the sweeper position.
When asked what he felt the greatest strength of the team was, he had this
to say:
“We are good friends, there is great team spirit, much enjoyment in the games that we play and there is strong unity in the side. In the last championship, we may not have been the stronger team in the final but our team spirit and the fact that everyone played for the team saw us win… We are a team in which the whole is greater than the sum of the parts”
Tactically, it is too early to tell the strengths and shortcomings of the team as it is still in the phase of reconditioning and gelling, but Hugo would like to see continuity in the team strategies. Without wanting to give too much away, we would say that keeping tactics simple, safe and efficient has been a key to MISN soccer’s success and will hopefully continue. With fast and skilful forwards, a combative midfield and a persistent defence that always challenges for the ball, Hugo feels that the team has a good combination of talent and experience.
To the question of our chances this year, Hugo replied:
“We always have a chance, but you never know. If we keep the same mentality, we can win.”
As for his personal touch to the team, Hugo felt that his experience and knowledge of the players’ strengths and the positions in which their talents are best used, has been his contribution. He will continue with the captain’s armband as long as his teammates are happy and he is pleased with his captaincy. However, in his own words, “No one is indispensable. If I am not there for whatever reason, the team has enough experience and skill in it to continue and win.”
Brave words that speak volumes about the belief that inspires the MISN Soccer Team. People, even the best teams raise their game a level when they play to a home crowd. So come on down, get behind the team and make the stadium our homeground! To another great year! Go MISN!

Hi guys,
as I am sure you already are well aware of, our game is this Saturday at 22:20.
Our opponents are Galatasaray, who will unfortunately probably not live up
to their name since (insider information has reached my ears) they are really
a B team that wants to play real soccer...But then again, they may just play
the best soccer they ever have on Saturday, and we may get to have some fun...(OK
GUYS, I HOPE YOU REALIZE I AM ONLY KIDDING with all this macho
stuff!)
Anyway, I am finally up and running and will be able to play and I hope to
see you all there ready to kick... ~El Capitan
