Sound data gathering onboard an Airbus 330
On July 1st 2004, with the help of Lufthansa’s simulator engineer, Andreas Roerig, I organized and performed a sound data gathering onboard a Lufthansa’s Airbus 330B Enhanced aircraft equipped with Roll-Royce engines (RR -772B-60), tail number D-AIKB.
The data gathering took place on a regular Lufthansa flight, conducted by
Captain Thomas Linner and First Officer Arianne
Scholl, over 4 legs.
Leg 1 - Flight 564 from Frankfurt to Lagos
Leg 2 - Flight 564 from Lagos to Accra
Leg 3 - Flight 565 from Accra to Lagos
Leg 3 - Flight 565 from Lagos to Frankfurt
The objective was to gather sound data needed to reproduce the acoustic environment
of the A330 both objectively and subjectively, in accordance
with JAR-STD amendment 3, on a Full Flight Simulator that Lufthansa
had bought from CAE Inc.
Sound data was recorded for all stages of flight: from dead cockpit to engine
start, take-off, climb, cruise, descent and landing.
Equipments used: Sony DAT recorder and B&K Microphone.
Data gathering and analysis documents were prepared but unfortunately can’t be reproduced here, as they are CAE Inc proprietary.
But you can enjoy some of the pictures taken during the flight.
